Age and DUPR Rating Levels:There are no age restrictions for Open Divisions. For 50+ Divisions, all players must be 50 or older as of the end of the current calendar year.

There is no minimum DUPR rating for an individual player in any division. There are maximum DUPR ratings for individual players for each division, and there are minimum and maximum combined team DUPR ratings.

• For 12 and 12 50+ divisions, an individual player's rating may not exceed 3.6.
• For Open 14 and 14 50+ divisions, an individual player's rating may not exceed 4.1.
• For Open 16 and 16 50+ divisions, an individual player's rating may not exceed 4.6.

Format: Teams may have up to 8 players on their roster, but each match must be played by 2 men and 2 women who meet the age requirement and whose combined DUPR ratings are within these ranges:

• For DUPR 12 Open and 12 50+ Divisions, the combined DUPR rating of the four players must be between 10.0 and 12.3.
• For DUPR 14 Open and 14 50+ Divisions, the combined DUPR rating of the four players must be between 12.0 and 14.3
• For DUPR 16 Open and 16 50+ Divisions, the combined DUPR rating of the four players must be between 14.0 and 16.3

Schedule:The general pattern for a season schedule includes a 6 week regular season and a 2 week postseason. However, the schedule for each division depends on the number of teams in the division. In the Spring, we had 5 teams in two divisions and 8 teams in one division. For the 5-team divisions, each team played every other team once during the regular season and because of the odd number, each team had one "bye" week during the 5-week regular season. The 8-team division was split into two pools of 4 teams each, and each team played every other team twice within their pool for the 6-week regular season. All three divisions then had a 2-week postseason.

In the Summer, we had 6 teams in two divisions and 4 teams in one division. The 6-team division played every other team in their division once over a 5-week regular season. The 4-team division played every other team in their division twice over a 6-week regular season. Again, all divisions then had a 2-week postseason.

For the Fall season, the number weeks required for the regular season for each division will depend on the number of teams in the division.

Regular Season

Dates and Times:The general pattern for match dates and times is to have as many matches as possible on the same dates and times. The two venues we are using now only have 6 courts, so only 6 matches can be held on the same date at the sam time in the same place. Matches were typically scheduled for Sunday afternoons from Noon to 4 pm at one of two venues: Ocean View Park in Albany or Castro Park in El Cerrito. Dates, times, and locations are subject to change due to a number of factors including but not limited to weather, court conditions and availability, number of divisions and teams in each division, and rescheduling by agreement of opposing teams. The following regular season schedule for Summer was based on a total of 16 teams. Each venue has six courts, which can accommodate 12 teams at one time.

• Sunday, June 7, 6 matches from 12 pm to 4 pm at Ocean View Park and 2 matches from 4 pm to 8 pm at Castro Park
• Sunday, June 14, 6 matches from 12 pm to 4 pm and 2 matches from 4 to 8 pm all at Castro Park
• Sunday, June 21, 6 matches from 12 pm to 4 pm at Ocean View Park and 2 matches from 4 pm to 8 pm at Castro Park
• Sunday, June 28, 6 matches from 12 pm to 4 pm and 2 matches from 4 to 8 pm all at Castro Park
• Sunday, July 12, 6 matches from 12 pm to 4 pm and 2 matches from 4 to 8 pm all at Castro Park
• Sunday, July 19, 2 matches from 12 pm to 4 pm at Castro Park

Postseason Playoff and Championships

The format, dates, times, and locations of playoff and championship matches depend on the number of divisions and number of teams in each division.

Dates and Times: The same variables and contingencies apply to the postseason as described for the regular season. For the Summer season it looks like this:

• Sunday, July 19, 6 matches from 12 pm to 4 pm and 4 matches from 4 to 8 pm all at Ocean View Park
• Sunday, July 26, 6 matches from 12 pm to 4 pm all at Castro Park

Registration Fee:The registration fee for the regular season in the summer was approximately $172 per team. This included $159 for court reservation fees and game balls plus platform and transaction fees collected by dailypb.com and stripe.com, respectively. Registration fees for postseason matches will be collected separately prior to the postseason sessions, since it is not guaranteed that all teams who play in the regular season will participate in the postseason matches. The approximate fee for postseason matches will be $32 per team per session. Fees are subject to change as required by changes in costs.

This team pickleball league is named East Bay because all matches take place at court locations in the East Bay, specifically at courts located in the cities of El Cerrito and Albany. Depending on the number of divisions and teams, other venues may be added in Richmond, Berkeley, and Oakland. There are no restrictions on player residence at this time.
