Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our league

General Information

Q: How do I join the league?
A: Begin by deciding which Division you want to play in and forming a Team and choosing a Captain, or declare your interest in joining a team by becoming a Free Agent. Sign up your team or become a free agent for a Preseason Friendly session now at DailyPB.com
Q: What skill levels do you accommodate?
A: See Division info.
Q: How are skill levels determined?
A: Skill levels are determined using the DUPR rating system. Every player should have a reliable DUPR rating. A DUPR reliability score of 60 or above is reliable. If the DUPR rating is not yet reliable (below .60), then the rating used for that player to calculate the team rating will be the average of the division skill level or the unreliable rating, whichever is greater. For the 12 level, the division average is 3.0; for the 14 level, the division average is 3.5.
Q: How much does it cost to participate?
A: The registration fees will be determined based on court reservation fees, purchase of pickleballs, and any other necessary expenses. This league is non-profit. There is no intent on the part of organizers to make a profit. When registration opens on dailypb.com, the team Captain will register the team and pay the registration fee for the team. The registration fee covers court registration costs and the cost of providing league approved pickleballs for all matches. Team members are responsible for any other costs, including paddles and uniforms, if any.
Q: When does the season run?
A: The inaugural spring 2026 season dates are Sunday, March 22 to May 10, 2022. The regular season will be six weeks long, ending Sunday, April 26. Optional Playoff/Championship events may occur on May 3 and/or May 10.

League Format & Rules

Q: What format do matches follow?
A: The match format for the regular season will be determined based on experimentation with different formats in three Preseason Friendlies. This answer will be updated at the conclusion of the preseason matches and before the beginning of the regular season.
Q: How are teams formed?
A: In most cases, teams meeting the division age and skill requirements will be formed by players on their own, usually at the initiation of an individual who is committed to serving as team Captain. In some cases an organization or group may hold tryouts to select team members. Prospective players who do not have a team may enter their names on a Free Agency list on dailypb.com. Established teams may recruit players from that Free Agency list or players on the Free Agency list may take it upon themselves to form a new team.
Q: What equipment do I need?
A: The league will provide league approved pickleballs for all matches. All other equipment is the responsibility of individual players and/or teams. Each player needs a league-approved paddle and court shoes. Uniforms are strongly encouraged, but optional.
Q: What are the rules for substitutions?
A: A team may have up to 8 players on its roster. The four players (2 women and 2 men) who will play in a scheduled match must be determined in advance of the match. The only substitutions allowed during a match are due to injury.

Scheduling & Locations

Q: Where are matches played?
A: Matches will be played at Ocean View Park in Albany and Castro Park in El Cerrito. Other venues may be added based on need.
Q: What if I can't make a scheduled match?
A: It is the responsibility of the team captain to ensure that four rostered team members (2 women and 2 men) are present at the time and location scheduled for a match. If the four rostered team members are not present within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time, the match is forfeited to the opposing team. If neither team has four rostered team members present at the scheduled start time, the match may be rescheduled by the two teams by reserving a court at an agreed upon time and at their own expense.
Q: How do I check the schedule?
A: The schedule of matches will be posted well in advance on dailypb.com, and on this website.
