Player Substitution Rules
Posted by Michael J Strait
βοΈ Edit this post
This post consolidates current player substitution rules and proposes a new additional rule for subs in the postseason. Captains will be discussing the proposed new rule in the Captain's Corner channel on our Discord server, but anyone can reply to this post with an opinion about current rules or the proposed new rule.
The following rules (#s 1-6) apply to all regular season and postseason games. An additional rule (#7) for player substitutions in the postseason is proposed
1. A βsubβ is a player who is not on a teamβs roster. (A team roster of up to 8 players may include team members who the team considers subs, but rostered players are not subs in the present context.
2. A sub may be included in the active lineup prior to a match if and only if four rostered players are not available due to unforeseen circumstances.
3. Substitutions are allowed during a match only when a player in the active lineup is injured and cannot continue (regular season and postseason).
4. A non-rostered sub may only play in one match for a team during the regular season and postseason.
5. A person who has played in one match as a sub may be added to the team roster only as a replacement for a rostered player whose injury prevents them from playing for the remainder of the season (regular season and postseason).
6. A sub must meet division eligibility requirements for individual cap and minimum and maximum team ratings (regular season and postseason).
Additional rules for player substitutions in the postseason.
7. In addition to meeting division eligibility requirements in the postseason, a subβs rating may not exceed the highest rating of any rostered player and may not cause the team rating to exceed the highest team rating of any four rostered players from any previous active lineup for the team during the regular season.
